In September 2017, Kate had been living in Chicago for just a few months when a friend reached out to say she’d be in town and would love to meet up. Kate found out that her friend, Caroline, was staying in Wicker Park, the neighborhood next to Kate’s.
“This is great. I’ll meet you at the L, we’ll walk to your AirBnb to drop your bags off and then grab dinner.”
They arrived at the AirBnb to find a very handsome host waiting to greet them. If you haven’t guessed, Jon was the AirBnb host.
Kate and Jon only chatted for a few minutes, but it was enough to leave an impression.
A few days later, as Caroline was checking out of the AirBnb, Jon sent her a note, “I know your friend, Kate, just moved to Chicago. If she is looking for a new connection in the city, feel free to pass my number along.”
Jon claims Kate sent him a text five minutes later (Kate disagrees and says it was at least ten minutes). They met a few days later for a drink at a bar called Queen Mary, and the rest is history.
Most importantly, Kate’s dog, Harry, quickly fell in love with Jon. The three of them have become inseparable.
Throughout the years
For the nearly six years that Jon and Kate have been together, they have lived in Chicago, Providence, and Brooklyn. Their travels have taken them all across the US, as well as Costa Rica, London, France, Stockholm, and Iceland (one day they will replan the trip to Japan they had booked in April 2020). When they are not traveling, Jon, Kate, and Harry love to spend their weekends wandering their neighborhood discovering new coffee shops, restaurants, and bars. Most weeknights you’ll find them watching an episode of Jeopardy as they eat dinner, or joining their friends for trivia at a local pub.
